Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has praised former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekhar for his vital contribution to Nepal’s democratic movement.
Speaking at a programme organized by the Ganesh Man Singh Foundation in Kathmandu on Monday, President Deuba stated, “Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar had raised his voice for Nepal’s democracy not only within Nepal but also in India. His arrival in Nepal boosted the morale of the pro-democracy movement.”
Deuba emphasized the warm and longstanding relationship Chandrashekhar shared with key Nepali Congress leaders like BP Koirala and Ganesh Man Singh, adding that Nepal remembers him with deep respect and gratitude.
Highlighting the open-border relationship and deep people-to-people ties between Nepal and India, Deuba underscored that India has consistently maintained goodwill toward Nepal’s republican system.
He further noted that mutual trust and historical friendship remain at the heart of Nepal-India relations, which were reinforced during crucial political turning points in Nepal's history.
